Our current "Featured Installation" is a spectacular 9,000 square foot home in the prestigious San Diego County community of Rancho Santa Fe. This home includes many common elements typical of a Modern Home Systems project. This includes a family room THX surround-sound theater system, music throughout the home, music in the key outdoor living areas, and a small dish satellite system.

Rear Yard

This home presented several unique challenges to the Modern Home Systems staff. The owners and the design team who created the home placed aesthetics at the top of their priority list, both inside and out. Modern Home Systems responded to this demand by creating functional and beautiful cabinet layouts and by providing an extremely high-performance audio and video system that blended seamlessly into the home's decor. A full surround sound theater resides in the family room while music plays effortlessly in twelve independent areas throughout the house and grounds.

Family Room

The primary location for music and video is the Family Room. The audio and video equipment is completely hidden behind the exotic wood pocket doors when the A/V system is not in use. The doors are easily opened and stashed away to show off the components and to use the 60" large screen television. All of the equipment is controlled with an extremely simple to use wireless color touchscreen. The touchscreen uses radio waves instead of infrared light, allowing complete operation of the system even when the doors are closed.

Equipment Rack

Top quality audio and video components provide exceptional sound and picture quality. A Proceed Digital THX surround sound processor and Proceed THX five-channel amplifier creates beautiful music and awesome movie sound. The sound is routed through a completely flush-mount, in-wall THX speaker system by Sonance. The Sonance THX Cinema speakers are installed into the walls and ceiling and require no unsightly boxes exposed in the room. Even the room-shaking bass subwoofers are hidden in the wall... Rigid woofer enclosures fit into the stud bays to leave only the grilles exposed. The grilles were faux painted to match the wall finish. All of the A/V equipment is mounted into a slide out "rack" mounting system. This system provides a clean and finished look to the gear and allows easy servicing should it be required.

Breakfast Room

Secondary A/V locations in the house were treated as seriously as the main room. Custom doors were created to conceal the television and components in the breakfast room. The stainless steel "Star-Trek" doors slide effortlessly to the sides when the television is exposed. Sound from the television is amplified and automatically switched to the high quality music speakers in the room when the TV is on.

Children's Study

In the children's study, television, equipment, and subwoofers were built into a bright and fun cabinet. The cabinet serves not only as an entertainment center, but also as a desk and school supply/book storage center for the three children. Once again the speakers in the study serve double duty. With an automatic A/B switch, the same pair of speakers that provides high quality music from the house music system also connects automatically to the room’s television. When the television is on, the sound is amplified and plays through the speakers built into the soffit above the entertainment center.

Pool / Cabana

With the wonderful climate here in Southern California, outdoor entertainment environments are extremely popular. High quality music was a must by the custom-built pool and outdoor entertainment areas. All in all, music is present in three outdoor zones. The music system volume and source selection is carried out via simple-to-use eight button keypads. Music is provided with flush-mount; weatherproof outdoor speakers and "Rock" speakers, which disappear into the landscaping.
